Neath is a community and town located in the principal area of Neath Port Talbot. According to The Office of National Statistics it had a population of 19,258 in 2011 with the wider urban area taking that total up to around 50,658. The town is located around 7 miles east northeast of Swansea and along the River Neath.

Neath has the benefit of being located between Glamorgan’s Heritage Coast and the Brecon Beacons National Park making it a perfect place for lovers of the great outdoors. Bikers and hikers in particularly will be treated to some of the best mountain and valley landscapes, not to mention stunning coastline in this area.

Neath is only a short ride away from Swansea making it a perfect option for residents of the latter who want a quick break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Neath is quickly becoming known as the Welsh version of Brighton, a place you can let off some steam after an exhilarating hike along the surrounding trails.

The town of Neath is historically a market town as well as the midpoint for the five surrounding valleys. The town itself offers a wide range of cafes, restaurants, shops and public houses but best of all an indoor market packed with fresh produce and traditional goods. Fancy a quick bite to eat? Then make sure to try a warm Welsh lamb baguette.

Looking for a place to dine? Well Neath offers a wide variety of establishments within its town. Swing by the Cambrian Arms for a cold pint but stay for the delicious roast dinners. Mint Masala meanwhile is ranked as the best Indian restaurant within Neath by Trip Advisor visitors.

Neath also has its own castle located within the town centre. Neath Castle is a Norman castle that is estimated to have begun construction between 1114 and 1130 by Robert, Earl of Gloucester. The town of Neath gets its Welsh name from the castle. The castle has quite the history of damages and rebuilds but what remains of the castle is designated a Grade II listed building.

St. David’s Church is another location worth visiting, it’s building styled in the ‘Victorian Gothic’ or ‘Pointed’ style. Built in 1866, the church is one of the first sights you will see when visiting the town of Neath. It was designed by John Norton with blue and red brick decoration, a design prevalent during the late 19th century. The church is also where star Katherine Jenkins mastered her voice as a choir girl.

Next door to the church is the beautiful Victoria Gardens, a two-acre area with a 19th century bandstand and circle of standing stones which were created for the National Eisteddfod in 1918.

On the sports side of things, Neath RFC was formed in 1871 and is the oldest rugby club in Wales. Time your visit right and you might get to see the Welsh All Blacks play on a Saturday.

Neath is a beautiful town and one packed with Welsh rural charm.

Great local company!

Excellent service. When I rang them to explain my hot tub needed a good clean they not only told me they had a deal on they also had someone round to my house the very next morning.

Excellent service

Excellent service, very helpful consultation and delivery and installation went without a hitch (unusual for us, there’s normally issues with anything we do!). Had it a few days and so far so good, love the experience.
